Big Bubba's circuit was adopted in the Society's first open round, and the moment it was his, the old name went in the drawer for good.

Big Bubba started out as a pup named Grady, but he didn't seem to like that name, so he quickly became Big Bubba, after his person's giant coworker. He was a basset hound and Jack Russell mix: not much bigger than a cat, louder than a bulldozer, and as happy as any dog you'll ever meet. He had a weird stance with his front feet but could run like a rabbit. His best buddies were his person's dad and that dad's dog, Doofus, and his girlfriend was a gigantic Rottweiler named Shugga. Whenever Dad came by, Bubba would leap impressively high in the air and bark louder than a Sunn Model T.

He ate normal wet dog food for 17 years, until one day he quit. His family thought he was ready to give up, then tried a ham and cheese sandwich, and he wolfed it down. That bought two more happy years, on one condition: three human meals a day, either cheeseburgers or tendies. Big Bubba died quietly at home, in his person's arms, in May 2026.

Under the hood he's a RAT-style distortion pushed well past polite: a sub-octave you blend in underneath for weight, a clipping switch to change how it breaks up, and a dedicated boost on its own footswitch for when the riff needs to get bigger. The circuit started life as a collaboration with the band Melted Bodies, and it's every bit as low, loud and stubborn as its namesake. 10% of every sale goes to It Takes A Village in Evansville, Indiana — his family's favorite local shelter.

Controls

Dist — gain and saturation

Filter — top end / tone

Vol — output level

Oct — blends in the sub-octave

Clip (toggle) — selects the clipping diodes

Boost — sets the boost amount

Fuzz (footswitch) — engages the pedal

Boost (footswitch) — kicks in the boost

Technical specs

Circuit

RAT-style distortion with sub-octave and boost

Series

The Canine Chaos Society — CCS #006 (The Big Bubba)

FKA

The Hot Dog

Enclosure

1590BB (dual footswitches)

Bypass

True bypass

Power

9V DC center-negative

I/O

1/4" mono input, 1/4" mono output

Controls

5 knobs (Dist, Filter, Vol, Oct, Boost), Clip toggle, 2 footswitches (Fuzz, Boost)

FAQ

Who was Big Bubba? Big Bubba was a basset hound / Jack Russell mix from Evansville, Indiana — not much bigger than a cat, louder than a bulldozer — who earned two happy bonus years on cheeseburgers and tendies.
