Two Dogs Are Up for Adoption. Neither One Has a Name Yet.

Every dog in a shelter has a name.

It's just not their name. It's the one a volunteer wrote on the kennel card at 6am because the paperwork needed something in the box. Peanut. Biscuit. Sergeant Pepper. Nobody asked the dog. Then somebody walks in, looks at that dog for eleven seconds, takes them home — and a week later that dog is Moose, has always been Moose, and the kennel card is in a drawer somewhere.

That's how the Canine Chaos Society works.

The circuits I build have names right now. I gave them those names. They are, in every way that matters, kennel names — placeholders on a card until the right dog shows up. When a dog adopts a circuit, the circuit takes their name, keeps it forever, and the old one goes in the drawer.

Formerly known as. FKA. Like a rescue.

Today, two circuits are on the card.

First — a quick catch-up

The Canine Chaos Society is NOKILL's pack: every pedal is a real dog, with a face, a name, and a story. Ten percent of every sale goes to a rescue — and for adoptions, the rescue is the one you pick.

The Founders Pack — Emmylou, Ruthie, and Juniper, the three who've been running this operation from the couch the whole time — is already out. That was the litter. This is the part where the pack starts growing.

One circuit, one dog, forever. When a circuit gets adopted, it is never built or sold under any other name again. Not a limited run. Not "limited-ish." Gone. There are only so many circuits in this shop, which means there are only so many spots in this Society, ever.

FKA THE HOT DOG

The loud one.

A high-gain distortion built for walls of sound — NOKILL's take on the Sunn O))) Life Pedal, with a clipping switch added for extra voicing and the boost moved onto its own footswitch. Six knobs, including a Mid Freq sweep that lets you park the midrange exactly where it does the most damage. Kick the boost on and it sings. Pull it back and it tightens into a rhythm tone that takes up space in a mix and refuses to leave.

Big enclosure. Two footswitches. No subtlety anywhere on it.

The dog it's looking for: the loud one. The one with opinions about the mailman, the recycling truck, and a leaf. The one who leans their entire body weight against you like it's a favor. Sixty pounds of I have arrived. If your dog announces themselves before they enter a room, this is their circuit.

Controls: Master · Drive · Treble · Mid · Bass · Mid Freq · Clipping toggle · Boost footswitch · Bypass footswitch
Format: 1590BB+ · true bypass · 9V DC center-negative

FKA INCA ORCHID DESTROYER

The weird one.

Two of the nastiest circuits in the underground, bolted together. Stage one is a modded Harmonic Percolator — the asymmetric germanium/silicon fuzz behind some of the meanest guitar tones ever recorded — voiced with the Lemon Hurts mods for a thicker octave-down throat. Stage two drops that straight into a Darkadiator: a fully discrete, all-transistor glitch-and-gate synth with square-wave fuzz, octave-down, PWM, LFO chop, and a CV input so something else can drive it.

The Percolator gnashes your signal into harmonic mush. The Darkadiator chases it into square waves and stuttering, gated chaos. It reacts to your hands, your pickups, and how mean you feel. It is not a distortion pedal with a mode. It is a small, unstable animal.

The name comes from the Peruvian Inca Orchid — a hairless dog that looks like nothing else at the shelter and knows it.

The dog it's looking for: the weird one. The 3am zoomies. The one whose proportions don't quite add up. The one who stares at a wall, screams once, and goes back to sleep. The one somebody else passed on because they didn't get it. This circuit is for the dog that requires an explanation.

Controls: Harmonics · Sputter · Balance · Clip toggle (germanium / silicon / diode-lift) · Deep · Width/Cutoff · Mode toggle · Voice toggle · LFO toggle · Rate · CV In · Bypass
Format: 1590BB · true bypass · 9V DC center-negative

How to put your dog in

1. DM me. That's the whole entry.

Send me a message on Instagram — @nokillpedalco — with:

  • Your dog's photo (a real one, not a glamour shot — personality beats a good camera)
  • Their name
  • Their story — who they are, how they landed with you, what makes them them
  • Which circuit you're nominating for — The Hot Dog or the Inca Orchid
  • The rescue you'd want your 10% to go to

Free. No payment, no commitment, no form to fill out. Just a DM.

2. I read every one and pick the fit.

Not a raffle, not first-come. I'm matching a dog to a sound. The loud circuit wants a loud dog; the weird circuit wants a weird dog. It's a real choice on my end, made honestly — and that's exactly what makes it an adoption and not a giveaway.

"She's sweet" tells me nothing. "She screams at the mailman and then falls asleep in his truck" tells me everything. Write the second one.

3. If it's your dog, I come back to you.

You confirm you still want in. Then we talk money — nobody pays to nominate, and nobody pays until they've said yes twice. We sort the artwork together, and I build it by hand.

4. The circuit retires to your dog. Forever.

What an adoption actually gets you

  • Serial #1. Your dog's circuit, the very first one built under their name — hand-built, signed into the registry, their face and their name on the enclosure. Every serial after it counts up from yours.
  • A custom woodcut of your dog. The print, made from their photo.
  • A Canine Chaos Society shirt. Wear the noise.
  • 10% to the rescue you named. Your dog, your cause.
  • Membership in the pack — member pricing, first look at every drop, and a permanent spot in the registry.
  • And the actual point: your dog is in the Canine Chaos Society. Permanently. There is a working piece of gear on somebody's pedalboard with your dog's face on it and their name on the card, and nobody else's dog will ever have it. Tell whoever you want. You earned it.

About the price

There isn't one in this post, on purpose.

Every adoption is a little different — which circuit, what the artwork needs, what your dog's story asks for. I'd rather have that conversation with you than let a number in a blog post decide it before you've heard the whole thing.

DM me. We'll talk. It's not a trick and it's not an auction — it's a conversation that happens in the right order.

Not picked?

Nothing's lost. Your nomination stays in the pool and rolls into the running for every circuit that opens after this. Nominate as often as you like, for as many dogs as you like.

And if you'd rather not wait on a match at all — the custom one-off is still right there. Your dog on any pedal, one time, no circuit retired, no waiting to be chosen. Adoption is for joining the pack. The custom is just for you. Both are good. They're different things.

Two circuits. Two kennel cards. Two names about to change.

The Hot Dog is waiting for something loud.
The Inca Orchid is waiting for something strange.

Send me your dog.

Embrace the noise. Be kind in the chaos.
Join the society. Start the noise. Pet the dogs.
