The Hazel is the Canine Chaos Society's glitch synth — a modded Harmonic Percolator gnashing straight into a discrete square-wave synth, named for a tailless Shiba Inu / Korean Jindo mix rescued from a Korean meat farm.
Every pedal in the Canine Chaos Society is a real rescue dog. Hazel's circuit was adopted in the Society's first open round, and the moment it was hers the old name went in the drawer for good.
Hazel is a Shiba Inu / Korean Jindo mix with no tail. She was rescued from a Korean meat farm and brought to the US, where her siblings and the dogs rescued alongside her all found homes. Hazel was transferred to Best Friends Animal Society, and that's where her family found her. She's a great dog who loves spinning in circles. Four years in, she still won't let anyone touch her, unless fireworks are going off and she comes looking for comfort. Her favorite toy is a sharpened bone her family calls her "shiv."
Under the hood she's two of the nastiest circuits in the underground bolted together, each on its own footswitch. Stage one is a modded Harmonic Percolator — the asymmetric germanium/silicon fuzz behind some of the meanest guitar tones ever recorded — voiced for a thicker octave-down throat. Stage two is a fully discrete, all-transistor glitch synth: square-wave fuzz, octave voice, pulse-width modulation and an LFO that chops or alternates octaves. Roll your volume back for broken-up grit; dig in for total synth destruction. 10% of every sale goes to Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah — the rescue where Hazel's family found her.

FAQ
Who is Hazel? Hazel is a real rescue dog — a tailless Shiba Inu / Korean Jindo mix rescued from a Korean meat farm and adopted through Best Friends Animal Society — and this glitch synth carries her name, face and story for good. It is never built or sold under any other name again.
Was The Hazel sold under another name? Yes. Before joining the Canine Chaos Society this circuit went by its kennel name, the Inca Orchid Destroyer. Joining the pack gave it Hazel's name permanently, so it is now The Hazel, FKA Inca Orchid Destroyer.
Does buying The Hazel support a rescue? Yes. 10% of every sale goes to Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah, the rescue where Hazel's family found her.
What do the two footswitches do? Each stage has its own. The left footswitch kicks in the glitch synth and the right one kicks in the Harmonic Percolator.
Does it track single notes and work on bass? It is gnarliest and most synth-like on single notes and in lower registers; chords go gloriously feral by design. Bass players will find plenty to wreck with.
What power supply do I need? Standard 9V DC center-negative.
