The Brutus is the Canine Chaos Society's wall-of-sound fuzz — thick lows, ripping highs and mids scooped into a canyon, named for a Great Pyrenees who really is entirely too large.
Every pedal in the Canine Chaos Society is a real rescue dog. Brutus's circuit was adopted in the Society's second open round, and the moment it was his, the old name went in the drawer for good.
Brutus was a stray, then spent time in foster care, before his family adopted him from Peace of Mind Dog Rescue in October 2023. He's a Great Pyrenees, which makes him roughly equal parts sweet, stubborn and fluffy, and absolutely convinced he's been put in charge of security. His house borders a slough, and he decided right away that the whole thing falls within his jurisdiction. People on the trail? Bark. A raccoon on the other side of the slough? Bark. An owl overhead in the middle of the night? Definitely bark. Someone actually at the front door? Wag and see if they brought a treat.
On walks he loves every person and every dog he meets, unless the dog is riding in a car, which is a serious violation of slough security regulations. Throw a ball and he looks at you like, "You know you're the one who's going to have to go get that, right?" When a siren goes by, he howls along. At night he comes inside and makes his rounds, checking the bedrooms and looking out the windows to make sure everyone is safe. Then morning comes, his shift ends, and he finds a spot in the yard and sleeps for hours, through rain, sleet or hail. Guarding an entire slough is exhausting work, especially when you're the only one taking it seriously.
Under the hood he's a genuinely enormous fuzz. Sustain sets how hard it saturates, Scoop hollows out the mids for that wall-of-sound shape, Filter tames or sharpens the top end, and Crunch adds extra clipping on top. He cleans up well when you back him off, but the fun is getting dirty and barky. Filthy on guitar, even filthier on bass, and he takes up more room than he has any right to. 10% of every sale goes to Peace of Mind Dog Rescue in Pacific Grove, California — the rescue where Brutus's family found him.

FAQ
Who is Brutus? Brutus is a real rescue dog — a Great Pyrenees adopted from Peace of Mind Dog Rescue, who runs security on the slough behind his house — and this fuzz carries his name, face and story for good. It is never built or sold under any other name again.
Was The Brutus sold under another name? Yes. Before joining the Canine Chaos Society, this circuit went by its kennel name, the Entirely Too Large Dachshund. Joining the pack gave it Brutus's name for good, so it's now The Brutus, FKA Entirely Too Large Dachshund.
Does buying The Brutus support a rescue? Yes. 10% of every sale goes to Peace of Mind Dog Rescue in Pacific Grove, California, the rescue where Brutus's family found him.
What does the Scoop knob do? It cuts the midrange to carve out the classic wall-of-sound shape — huge lows and highs with the middle hollowed out.
Does it work on bass? Yes — it's especially filthy on bass.
What power supply do I need? Standard 9V DC center-negative.
